Fall-ing Leaves

Labor Day has just passed and school is in session. That can only mean one thing - Fall is right around the corner. Not only does Fall bring us football, hot cocoa, and holidays, but it also means some cold weather repairs and preparations may be needed for your home. Our homes definitely take a beating during the colder months as exteriors bear the nasty weather. It's not uncommon to acquire damage to window and door seals, decks and siding, and even roofs and driveways. You may not notice the cracks or decay until Spring, but it's the cold temps and damp days of Fall and Winter that cause it.

One of the biggest concerns where exterior water damage can occur is around your gutters. Clogged gutters from Fall leaves could lead to more costly repairs down the road. By not keeping your gutters clear of leaves and other debris, runoff water from rain and snow is less likely to make it to the ground by it's intended path. Water deterred by leaves and debris can cause ice formation in below-freezing temps and can damage gutters. When clogs occur, water has to find alternative routes to the ground or not make it there at all. This can mean pooling water near the roof line causing damage to soffits and trim. It can also mean water travels down and behind siding or stone, causing rot or decay from excess water. Clogged gutters can even lead to basement flooding or foundation damage!

The most cost-effective and efficient solution to keep your gutters clean year round is to install gutter covers. They are extremely low maintenance and a quick item to have installed. The aluminum covers are durable and keep you from cleaning your gutters regularly.

I have installed numerous gutter covers for my customers and would love to help you prevent future water damage and greater repair expenses.
